Core levels
Through observing the interaction between ions of similar charges vs. ions of different charges, players are introduced to attraction and repulsion.
Players must ‘activate’ an equal number of positive and negative charges to successfully create a compound with an overall neutral charge.
To satisfy a target, players must create ionic compounds of specific cation to anion ratios (1:1, 1:2, 2:1, 2:3, 3:2).
Connected levels
Ions and Ionic Bonding
In these connected levels, there are ions missing from the bank. Players must return to the Ions game to build the missing ions that they need to create the target ionic compounds in the Ionic Bonding game.
In order to successfully create the target ionic compounds in the Ionic Bonding game, players must create and send correctly charged ions from the Ions game through the pipe.
Acids & Bases and Ionic Bonding
In these connected levels, there are ions missing from the bank. Players must return to the Acids & Bases game to create the missing ions that they need in order to build the target ionic compounds in the Ionic Bonding game.
By removing protons from acids and adding protons to bases in the Acids & Bases game, players can create and send ions of the correct charge through the pipe in order to create the target ionic compounds.
Sandbox
The Ionic Bonding Sandbox is an open-ended and exploratory environment designed for students to freely build molecules using the provided bank of atoms. Complement your instruction by designing your own Sandbox activities and encourage your students to earn the built-in Achievements that focus on a specific topic within Ionic Bonding (i.e. net neutrality, ratios, chemical formula).
